5 Fantastically fast and fresh tips to change your mind!

Have you heard about the importance of eating a plant based diet but don’t have a clue what that looks like for you? Maybe you are just struggling to get fruits and vegetables in your diet? The easiest place to start is to include plants every time you eat.  Here are 5 fast, fresh and tasty tips on how to include a plant based diet in your healthy lifestyle.

  1. Chomp a vegetable every time you eat. We know we are supposed to eat 5-9 servings of plant based foods each day but how in the world do you do that? Start the day off right with a fruit & veggie smoothie. Eat some nuts & celery for a morning snack. Have a colorful salad with protein for lunch. Enjoy a cucumber with a cheese stick for an afternoon snack and top the day off with green beans and broccoli with your dinner.
  2. Constantly on the go? Fruits and vegetables are the perfect option because they are individually packaged and ready to carry. Grab a banana and a protein bar on the way out the door. Stick some nuts, zucchini & carrot sticks in your computer case. Have an apple in your car for the afternoon commute.

  1. Aim to stay local. This time of year is the perfect opportunity for you to visit your local grocer, farmer’s market or roadside produce stand for some fresh produce. If you are really adventurous, pick your own berries, peaches or produce at some of the local farms and orchards around you.
  2. Try something unusual. Have you ever tried a star fruit or baby bok-choy? We easily get stuck in a rut especially with what we eat. Try choosing one new fruit or vegetable every time you go shopping or out to dinner to add some variety and zest to your diet.
  3. Be creative about fresh food. Try adding pineapple or peaches to your next grilling experience. Make a zippy mango salsa to top your fish. Saute radishes with bacon and mushrooms for a delectable side dish. Roast corn or peppers over an open flame to add flavor. Garnish with fresh herbs to add color and a taste explosion to any dish!

Remember you want to choose plants each time you eat. If you are enjoying a main meal, try to fill half of your plate with plant options! Doing this regularly can increase weight loss and reduce body fat. It also helps reduce your chance of getting a chronic disease like diabetes or high blood pressure. Now that you have some ideas on how to get started eating more plants, I can’t wait to hear your creative ideas and see pictures of your amazing eats!

Have fun and choose health,
